SEN Teaching Assistant – Full Time - Knaresborough
A Teaching Assistant is required on a full-time basis within a special school situated in Knaresborough.
The school is a Specialist College for Communication and Interaction and supports the learning of pupils with an Education and Health Care Plan from Early Years to Year 11 (3-16 years old).
Pupils have a wide range of additional needs which include:
- Moderate Learning Difficulties
- Severe Learning Difficulties
- Complex Medical Difficulties
- Downs Syndrome
- Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder
- Physical Difficulties
- Hearing Impairment
- Autism Spectrum Condition
94% of the school population also have Speech, Language and Communication Needs.
The school curriculum is designed to allow children to flourish, to be supported to develop skills and knowledge which are useful to them and to ensure that the outcomes identified in their Education, Health and Care Plans are embedded into classroom practice, enabling personalised learning to take place.
The successful applicant will work under the instruction/direction of senior manager/teaching staff to support the delivery of quality learning and teaching of pupils with special educational needs. You will work collaboratively with your colleagues to create an atmosphere in which everyone knows, respects and is tolerant of each other. Friendship, respect, and excellence are at the heart of the school ethos, and you will be committed to supporting young people to develop lasting friendships with their peers whilst sharing their learning journey. You will encourage pupils to respect themselves and others as they strive for excellence in all that they do both academically and personally.
Key responsibilities will include:
- Working with children and young people who have a range of significant and often complex SEND for example those with autism, social, emotional and mental health difficulties, profound and multiple, severe or moderate learning difficulties including, in some instances, those with life limiting conditions and those who exhibit challenging behaviour
- Undertaking specified work with individuals, groups and whole classes under the direction and supervision of a qualified teacher
- Encouraging the participation of pupils in the social and academic processes of the school, and enable pupils to become more independent learners
- Implementing work/care/support programmes to enable access to learning for pupils and to assist the teacher in the management of pupils and the classroom
