Teaching Assistant – Specialist SEN School (Ages 7–16)

Location: Dibden
Pay Rate: £13.75 per hour
Contract: Term Time Only

We are seeking a compassionate, reliable, and enthusiastic SEN Teaching Assistant to join a specialist school in Dibden that supports pupils aged 7–16. This school caters to young people with a range of complex social, emotional, and mental health needs, often arising from:

  • Childhood trauma

  • Autistic Spectrum Conditions (ASC)

  • Attachment difficulties

  • School-based anxiety or phobia of education

About the Role

As an SEN Teaching Assistant, you will play a vital role in supporting students both academically and emotionally, helping them re-engage with learning in a safe, structured, and nurturing environment. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Supporting the delivery of tailored education plans under the guidance of teaching and therapeutic staff

  • Working one-to-one or in small groups to help pupils access the curriculum at their own pace

  • Promoting positive behaviour, emotional regulation, and social development

  • Assisting pupils with personal care or sensory needs, where appropriate

  • Helping to maintain a calm, consistent classroom environment

  • Building trusting, supportive relationships with pupils who may present with challenging behaviours

This is a highly rewarding position that requires patience, empathy, and resilience. You will be a consistent, encouraging presence in the lives of students who may have experienced significant disruptions to their education.

Candidate Requirements:

  • Previous experience in an SEN, care, or trauma-informed setting is desirable, though not essential

  • A calm, supportive and proactive attitude

  • A genuine passion for working with young people with additional needs

  • Ability to work effectively as part of a multi-disciplinary team
