SEN Teaching Assistant

A large primary school near Catford for children with profound and multiple learning disabilities is looking for a teaching assistant to start with them on a part time supply basis after the Easter holidays. You will be booked to work at the school as and when they have requirement for you – this will be between 2-5 days per week.

This type of work is very flexible and means you will get to work across the different classes in the school. You will enjoy getting to know the different students and staff members. There may be opportunity to become a regular member of staff in the future, if this is what you are looking for.

The school has most recently been rated as outstanding by Ofsted, and has a purpose built building for children with learning disabilities. This includes a sensory circuit, sensory garden, dark and light sensory rooms, hydrotherapy pool, rebound therapy, soft play and designated quiet spaces.

You must meet the following requirements to be considered for this role:

  • Have a child workforce DBS registered on the update service, or be willing to complete a new one as soon as possible
  • Have previous experience of working with children who have special educational needs, particularly autism
  • Be able to provide good references from your previous places of employment
  • Be available for flexi work after the Easter holidays
  • Be able to travel to the South Catford area for work, starting at 08:30am and finishing at 15:30pm
  • Knowledge of PECs, Makaton or British Sign Language is desirable
  • Be willing to provide personal care including toileting and changing – this is essential

You will also have access to training courses once you are fully registered with us, which are either free or heavily subsidised, including Team Teach, Safeguarding, Prevent Duty and Introduction to Autism.
