An outstanding special needs school in the London Borough of Southwark is looking to appoint a teacher, to start after Easter 2019.

• Full time maternity cover contract from 23^rd April 2019 to the end of December 2019

This school has been rated as outstanding by Ofsted in its last 3 inspections. The presence of the senior leadership team is prevalent around the school and you will find them extremely supportive of their staff and students. You will be joining a close-knit team, who work together to provide the very best education for the 80 students on roll at the school.

You will be teaching a mixed key stage 4/5 class comprising 8 students. Their needs include both verbal and non-verbal autism, two of the students have Down Syndrome and you will experience some challenging behaviour due to the severity of their learning difficulties. The class also has 4 teaching assistants who know the students very well and will assist you in getting to know them quickly.

You will be required to fully plan, prepare and assess work for the students, using the P-Scales to measure progress. You will deliver a range of lessons, covering communication and literacy, numeracy, ICT, sensory development including art and music, PE and food technology. Knowledge of PECs and Makaton would be beneficial as you will use these on a daily basis, however training is available for this.
