Job Title: SEN Learning Support Assistant (Challenging Behaviour)
Location: Torbay, Devon
Job Type: Full-Time / Part-Time / Temporary / Permanent (Flexible depending on the role)
Salary: £90 – £95 per day (depending on experience and qualifications)

Are you passionate about supporting children with special educational needs? Do you have the resilience, patience, and dedication to work with pupils who display challenging behaviour? We are currently seeking committed and experienced SEN Learning Support Assistants to work across a number of primary and secondary schools in the Torbay area.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide 1:1 and small group support to pupils with SEMH (Social, Emotional and Mental Health) needs and other complex behavioural challenges.

  • Assist class teachers in delivering tailored learning activities and managing classroom behaviour.

  • Develop positive, trusting relationships with pupils to support their emotional well-being and learning progress.

  • Use de-escalation strategies and behaviour management techniques to maintain a supportive learning environment.

  • Work closely with SENCOs, teachers, and external professionals to implement and monitor EHCP targets.

Requirements:

  • Previous experience working with children with SEN, particularly those with challenging behaviour.

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.

  • A calm, consistent, and resilient approach to behaviour management.

  • A valid DBS on the update service (or willing to apply).

  • Team Teach or other de-escalation training is highly desirable but not essential.
