Experienced SEN Teaching Assistant required to work Wakefield

  • Experience working with a variety of SEN
  • Excellent rates of pay
  • CPD course opportunity

In education, the SEN schools are looking for additional support for their pupils and many of these are in Wakefield. As the school year is progressing and we are now nearing the assessment periods at the moment, SEN schools and starting gain additional pupils which requires more specialised support with particular pupils. These include ASC, PMLD, SEMH, MLD and SLD pupils and need 1:1 support in the classroom across the full curriculum. The ideal candidate would have great experience working with SEN pupils, or be very keen to start working in an SEN environment. We advise any potential individuals with Team Teach training, experience using PECs and Makaton, moving and handling and personal care to apply within.

The needs of each SEN school are completely different and we would need to discuss with you where your abilities lie. There are several schools that cater to PMLD, MLD, SLD and ASC which take a multi sensory approach to learning such as trust therapy, rebound therapy, physiotherapy and hydrotherapy. If you have had PEG feeding training and experience this is desirable to the school.

Other schools provide a safe and secure environment to pupils with SEMH. These particular schools can be quite challenging but the role can offer you great benefits such as a sense of job satisfaction. The schools focus on delivering their lessons creatively so that pupils will get involved, they hope that this will engage pupils into education, so class based activities usually involve lots of art sessions as a way of letting the pupils express themselves. Experience working with challenging behaviour is advantageous.

A full enhanced DBS that has been registered on the update service is essential, which Teaching Personnel can full assist with.

If you feel you have the skill set for a position such as the above and would like to apply to us please contact Sarah on 0113 224 0234 or email your current CV in word format to sarah.franks@teachingpersonnel.com
