A highly reputable and well-established group of Special Educational Needs (SEN) schools is seeking a passionate and dedicated SEMH (Social, Emotional, and Mental Health) Teaching Assistant to join their Alternative Provision based in Thrapston. This is a permanent role starting from January 2025, with the possibility of an earlier start date.

About the Role:

As a SEMH Teaching Assistant, you will work closely with students who have a range of social, emotional, and mental health needs. You will be supporting both their academic development and emotional wellbeing, ensuring they feel safe, understood, and empowered to thrive in their learning environment.

The ideal candidate will demonstrate compassion, patience, and a strong commitment to improving outcomes for students facing challenges in mainstream settings. This role offers the opportunity to make a significant impact on students' lives within a supportive and highly professional school group.

Key Responsibilities:

• Provide 1:1 and small group support to students with SEMH needs.
• Assist the class teacher in planning and delivering tailored learning activities.
• Foster a positive, nurturing environment that promotes emotional resilience and social skills.
• Work collaboratively with teachers, SENCOs, and other professionals to develop personalized strategies for student success.
• Support the implementation of individualized education plans (IEPs) and behavioral management strategies.
• Encourage and facilitate student engagement with learning, offering emotional support when needed.
• Help students develop life skills and coping mechanisms to manage their emotions and behaviors.
• Monitor and report on student progress, identifying areas where additional support is needed.

Requirements:

• Previous experience working with children or young people with SEMH or similar needs.
• Understanding of behavior management techniques and de-escalation strategies.
• Ability to build trusting, supportive relationships with students.
• Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
• Patience, empathy, and resilience in challenging situations.
• A team player, with a flexible and collaborative approach.
• Relevant qualifications such as a Level 2 or 3 Teaching Assistant qualification (desirable but not essential).
• A commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people.
