SEMH Support Assistant

Teaching Personnel is currently working with a specialist SEMH provision in the BL3 area of Bolton to recruit a committed and flexible SEMH Support Assistant to work with young people who require additional behavioural, emotional, and social support.

This full-time role is ideal for someone with previous experience in education, youth work, or care settings — and who is confident in supporting young people both in the classroom and during off-site enrichment activities.

Key Responsibilities:

• Support students with social, emotional, and mental health (SEMH) needs on a 1:1 or small group basis

• Help create a safe, nurturing, and engaging environment for pupils who may display challenging behaviour

• Assist in the delivery of structured learning sessions and therapeutic activities

• Take students out on off-site enrichment and activity days — a full UK driving licence is essential

• Build strong, positive relationships with students to support their personal and academic development

• Work collaboratively with teachers, mentors, and other support staff

The Ideal Candidate Will Have:

• Experience working with young people with SEMH or additional needs

• A full UK driving licence and willingness to transport students for activities/trips

• Resilience, patience, and a calm, confident approach

• A genuine passion for supporting vulnerable or at-risk young people

• The ability to de-escalate challenging behaviour and provide consistent, supportive care

• An Enhanced DBS registered on the Update Service (or willingness to apply)
