Maths Teacher – SEMH School (Salford)

Full Time | Long-Term Position | September start
Salary: Competitive and based on experience

Teaching Personnel are seeking a dedicated and resilient Maths Teacher to join a specialist secondary SEMH (Social, Emotional and Mental Health) school in the Salford area. This full-time role is perfect for a teacher who is passionate about supporting pupils with complex SEMH needs and fostering a safe, engaging, and nurturing learning environment. The pupils you will work with may present a range of needs, including challenging behaviour, mental health conditions, anxiety-related school avoidance, eating disorders, and difficulties with communication.


The Role

As a Maths Teacher in this specialist setting, you will:

  • Deliver engaging Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4 Maths lessons tailored to individual learning needs.
  • Plan, differentiate, and adapt schemes of work to support pupils with SEMH and behavioural needs.
  • Work collaboratively with pastoral teams, behaviour mentors, and support staff.
  • Implement effective behaviour-management strategies and maintain a positive, consistent classroom ethos.
  • Track and monitor pupil progress, providing regular feedback and intervention where required.
  • Build trusting relationships with pupils, using a trauma-informed and empathetic approach.

Requirements

To be considered for this position, you must have:

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent recognised teaching qualification.
  • Previous experience working with SEMH pupils or within an alternative provision setting (desirable but not essential if you have strong behaviour management).
  • A child workforce Enhanced DBS registered on the Update Service (or be willing to apply for one through Teaching Personnel).
  • A strong understanding of safeguarding and the ability to remain calm and consistent under pressure.
  • A genuine passion for helping young people overcome barriers to learning.
