Youth Worker – Alternative Provision

Are you passionate about inspiring young people and helping them re-engage with education? Do you excel at building strong, meaningful relationships with students who need a different approach to learning?

An Alternative Provision school is seeking a dedicated Youth Worker to support students with Education, Health, and Care Plans (EHCPs). This role focuses on re-engaging learners, building their confidence, and helping them develop the skills needed to transition back into mainstream education.

The Role

As a Youth Worker, you will play a vital role in supporting young people who face social, emotional, or behavioural challenges. Your key responsibilities will include:

• Engaging students through activities, sports, mentoring, and creative approaches.
• Building strong, trusting relationships and acting as a positive role model.
• Encouraging participation in learning through inclusive and adaptable strategies.
• Supporting students with SEMH needs using de-escalation, encouragement, and positive reinforcement.
• Working alongside teachers and support staff to maintain a structured, supportive, and consistent environment.

The Ideal Candidate

We’re looking for someone who is:

• Experienced in youth work, sports coaching, mentoring, or similar pastoral roles.
• Confident in working with young people who have SEMH, SEN, or behavioural needs.
• Skilled at communication and relationship-building, able to gain students’ trust and respect.
• Patient, enthusiastic, and adaptable, with a genuine passion for helping young people succeed.
• Able to manage challenging behaviours while offering emotional and pastoral support.
