About the Role

Teaching Personnel is currently seeking passionate and resilient Support Workers and Teaching Assistants to work within a range of specialist schools and alternative educational settings across Bolton.

We are looking for individuals who have experience supporting children and young people with Special Educational Needs (SEN) and/or Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs. This is an excellent opportunity for candidates with experience in care, support work, mental health, education, youth work, or psychology who are looking to develop their career within an educational setting.

As a Support Worker/Teaching Assistant, you will work closely with teaching staff and other professionals to provide individualised support to pupils and help them achieve their educational, social, emotional, and behavioural goals.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide one-to-one and small-group support to pupils with SEN and SEMH needs.

  • Support pupils with emotional regulation, behaviour management, and social development.

  • Build positive, trusting, and professional relationships with children and young people.

  • Assist pupils to engage with learning and participate positively in school activities.

  • Implement individual support strategies and follow pupils' education and behaviour plans.

  • Support pupils who may demonstrate challenging or distressed behaviour using appropriate de-escalation and positive behaviour strategies.

  • Encourage independence, confidence, resilience, and positive social interaction.

  • Work collaboratively with teachers, SENCOs, pastoral staff, families, and other professionals.

  • Maintain safeguarding standards and promote the welfare and safety of pupils.

  • Record and communicate relevant information regarding pupils' progress, behaviour, and wellbeing.

  • Maintain confidentiality and professional boundaries at all times.

About You

The successful candidate will ideally have:

  • Experience working with children or young people in an SEN, SEMH, care, support work, education, or mental health setting.

  • A calm, patient, compassionate, and resilient approach.

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.

  • The ability to build positive relationships with children and young people.

  • An understanding of safeguarding and professional boundaries.

  • The ability to remain calm and professional when managing challenging situations.

  • A genuine commitment to supporting pupils with additional needs.

  • The ability to work effectively as part of a wider team.

Relevant experience may include: Teaching Assistant, Support Worker, Care Worker, Youth Worker, Mental Health Support Worker, Behaviour Mentor, Residential Support Worker, SEN Teaching Assistant, Learning Support Assistant, or similar roles.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
