Teaching Personnel is working in partnership with specialist SEMH schools across the Manchester area to recruit enthusiastic, resilient, and compassionate SEMH Student Support Mentors. These rewarding full-time opportunities involve supporting students who present with a range of needs, including Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, ADHD, Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC), trauma, attachment difficulties, anxiety, low self-esteem, emotional dysregulation, and challenging behaviours.
SEMH schools provide a highly supportive and nurturing environment for pupils who may have struggled in mainstream education. As a Student Support Mentor, you'll have the opportunity to positively influence a young person's educational journey, helping them build confidence, resilience, and the skills needed to thrive both in school and beyond.
The Opportunity
In this rewarding role, you will:
- Support students on a 1:1 basis and in small groups throughout the school day.
- Build strong, positive relationships that help young people feel safe, valued, and understood.
- Encourage engagement in learning and support pupils to achieve their personal and academic goals.
- Implement behaviour support strategies and use de-escalation techniques to manage challenging situations positively.
- Help students develop emotional regulation, social skills, confidence, and independence.
- Support classroom learning while also acting as a trusted mentor and role model.
- Work collaboratively with teachers, pastoral teams, therapists, and safeguarding staff.
- Celebrate progress, no matter how small, and contribute to positive outcomes for every pupil.
We're Looking For
This role would suit candidates with experience in:
- Education and teaching support.
- Youth work and mentoring.
- Sports coaching.
- Residential childcare.
- Support work or care settings.
- Psychology, Criminology, or Education graduates.
You will also have:
- A patient, proactive, and resilient approach.
- Strong communication and relationship-building skills.
- A genuine passion for supporting vulnerable young people.
- The ability to remain calm under pressure and adapt to individual needs.
- A DBS on the Update Service or willingness to obtain one through Teaching Personnel.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
