Job description

We are seeking a dedicated School Engagement Officer to join a thriving school in Taunton, making a real difference to students’ lives by ensuring their safety, wellbeing, and full engagement in learning.

This is a vital role for a passionate professional who can combine safeguarding expertise with the ability to inspire students to attend, achieve, and thrive.

Main Purpose of the Role:

  • Safeguard students and support them to ‘enjoy and achieve’.

  • Drive improvements in attendance and punctuality through effective strategies.

  • Provide targeted support for students whose attendance is a concern, ensuring disadvantaged learners are prioritised.

  • Act as a Deputy Designated Safeguarding Lead, working closely with pastoral teams and families.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement strategies to improve attendance and punctuality.

  • Plan and carry out home visits to support students and families.

  • Manage catch-up programmes for students with lost learning.

  • Deliver individual and group interventions to re-engage students.

  • Work with staff, parents, and outside agencies to address barriers to attendance.

  • Promote positive attitudes to learning, behaviour, and school life.

  • Maintain accurate records, complete statutory returns, and stay updated on DfE guidance.

  • A strong understanding of safeguarding and child protection.

  • Experience working with young people and families to overcome barriers to education.

  • Excellent communication skills to work effectively with a range of stakeholders.

  • Organisational skills and attention to detail for maintaining records and reports.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
