School Attendance Officer

Attendance Officer – Full Time
Location: Northamptonshire, Daventry
Start Date: September 2026 (or ASAP for the right candidate)
Teaching Personnel is working in partnership with a welcoming and supportive secondary school in Northamptonshire to recruit a dedicated Attendance Officer. This is a full-time position, offering an excellent opportunity for an organised, proactive individual who is passionate about supporting student attendance and wellbeing.
The successful candidate will play a key role in promoting excellent attendance and punctuality across the school, working closely with students, families, pastoral staff and external agencies to ensure every student has the best opportunity to succeed.
Key Responsibilities
- Monitor and maintain accurate attendance records using the school's management information system.
- Contact parents and carers regarding daily student absences and investigate unexplained absences.
- Identify patterns of persistent absence and work with pastoral teams to implement strategies for improvement.
- Produce regular attendance reports and analyse attendance data to support interventions.
- Build positive relationships with students and families to encourage good attendance and punctuality.
- Liaise with external agencies, including the Local Authority, where appropriate.
- Support the implementation of the school's attendance policy and ensure compliance with statutory guidance.
- Maintain accurate and confidential records of attendance interventions and communications.
- Work collaboratively with teaching and support staff to promote a positive culture of attendance across the school.
The Ideal Candidate
- Previous experience in an attendance, administration, pastoral or school-based role is desirable.
- Excellent organisational and administrative skills with strong attention to detail.
- Confident communicator with the ability to build positive relationships with students, parents and colleagues.
- Able to manage sensitive information professionally and confidentially.
- Strong IT skills and experience using Microsoft Office; experience with school management systems is an advantage.
- A proactive approach with the ability to prioritise workload and work independently.
