Are you ready for an exciting new opportunity where no two days are the same? Teaching Personnel is looking for an experienced, passionate and empathetic 1:1 Teaching Assistant to support in one of our Secondary Pupil Referral Units in the Salford area. In this role you will be supporting students with SEMH needs such as challenging behaviour, anxiety, attachment difficulties, and have been unbale to access education within mainstream and other alternative settings.

Key Responsibilities

  • Work closely with a specific pupil to support their learning, emotional regulation, and engagement in lessons tailored to their needs.
  • Implement behaviour strategies, de-escalation techniques, and agreed behaviour plans to support pupils with SEMH (Social, Emotional & Mental Health) needs.
  • Help the pupil access the curriculum by adapting tasks, breaking down instructions, and reinforcing learning in line with EHCP targets where applicable.
  • Develop a trusting, consistent relationship with the pupil to encourage confidence, motivation, and improved participation in school life.
  • Provide guidance, reassurance, and support during difficult moments, helping pupils develop coping strategies and social skills.
  • Liaise with teachers, SENCOs, and external professionals (e.g. therapists, behaviour specialists) to ensure consistent support and progress.
  • Record observations on behaviour, engagement, and academic development, and contribute to reviews, reports, and support plans.

Key Requirements

  • Previous experience working with SEMH needs within education or care settings
  • An enhanced DBS on the update service
  • A patient, empathetic and Nurturing approach
  • Ability to stay calm, use de-escalation techniques, and follow behaviour policies effectively.
  • Level 2-3 Teaching Assistant qualification or equivalent ( Desirable but not essential)

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
