The role focuses on life skills, study skills and future planning rather than academic tutoring. Each programme is tailored to the individual learner, taking into account their goals, interests, strengths and circumstances.

What You’ll Be Doing

  • Support learners to identify personal goals and plan their next steps.
  • Develop study skills, organisation and problem-solving abilities.
  • Help learners build life skills, including time management, independence and financial awareness.
  • Support career exploration, CV writing and interview preparation.
  • Help learners understand and engage with education, training and employment pathways.
  • Work with families to establish positive routines and encourage engagement.
  • Support learners in building confidence, resilience and motivation.
  • Track learner progress and complete session reports.
  • Encourage participation in positive activities and opportunities within the local community.

What This Role Is Not

  • No academic tutoring.
  • No personal care or medical responsibilities.
  • No behaviour restraint or manual handling.

Our Approach

You will take a learner-led and solution-focused approach, helping young people to:

  • Build confidence, resilience and self-awareness.
  • Explore their interests, strengths and career aspirations.
  • Develop essential life, social and employability skills.
  • Understand the education, training and employment pathways available to them.
  • Develop independence and positive decision-making skills.
  • Re-engage with positive activities and future planning.
  • Identify achievable goals and take practical steps towards them.

Sessions are tailored to each learner and may include practical activities, discussions, planning exercises, career exploration and appropriate community engagement.

What We’re Looking For

We are interested in individuals with experience supporting young people in settings such as:

  • Schools, colleges, alternative provision or specialist settings.
  • Sports coaching environments.
  • Youth work, mentoring or support roles.
  • SEND, SEMH or behavioural support environments.
  • Careers, employability or progression-focused roles.

You should:

  • Be empathetic, patient and able to build trust quickly.
  • Be confident working one-to-one in a learner’s home or community setting.
  • Have experience supporting young people with additional needs, such as autism, ADHD, SEMH or mental health needs.
  • Be able to motivate and guide young people towards positive outcomes.
  • Have strong communication and relationship-building skills.
  • Have an interest in careers education, life skills and progression support.
  • Be reliable, professional and committed to safeguarding.
  • Be passionate about helping young people achieve their potential.

What We Offer

  • Flexible, part-time mentoring opportunities across Northamptonshire.
  • Full induction and role-specific training.
  • Access to CPD covering SEND, trauma, safeguarding and behaviour.
  • Structured tools and resources to support your sessions.
  • Ongoing support from experienced education professionals.
  • Regular mentor forums and peer support.
  • The opportunity to make a meaningful difference to young people’s lives.
