About the Role

TP Tutors is looking for passionate, reliable and empathetic Attendance Mentors to support children and young people across Northamptonshire who are disengaged from education.

This is a relationship-led, child-centred role where you will work one-to-one with learners, typically in their home environment or a suitable community setting, helping them overcome barriers to attendance and gradually re-engage with education.

Our approach focuses on wellbeing, confidence and motivation rather than academic tutoring. You will work with each young person to develop the skills, routines and confidence they need to successfully transition back into education.

Sessions will be fully personalised to each learner’s individual needs, interests and circumstances.

What You’ll Be Doing

• Deliver one-to-one mentoring sessions with learners.
• Build strong, positive relationships with learners and their families.
• Identify barriers to attendance and support learners in developing practical solutions.
• Support positive routines at home, including sleep, independence and preparation for learning.
• Use games, creative activities and the learner’s interests to encourage engagement.
• Support learners with confidence, emotional wellbeing and motivation.
• Monitor progress and complete session reports.
• Encourage re-engagement with education and positive activities in preparation for transition.
• Work collaboratively with families and relevant education professionals where required.

What This Role Is Not

• No academic tutoring.
• No personal care or medical responsibilities.
• No behaviour restraint or manual handling.

Sessions are flexible and may include play-based activities, creative work, interest-led activities and appropriate community engagement.

What We’re Looking For

We are interested in candidates with experience working with children or young people in settings such as:

• Schools, alternative provision, PRUs or specialist settings.
• Youth work or mentoring roles.
• Sports coaching environments.
• SEND, SEMH or behavioural support settings.
• Education, pastoral or family support roles.

You should:

• Be empathetic, patient and adaptable.
• Be confident working one-to-one in a learner’s home environment.
• Have experience supporting children or young people with additional needs, such as autism, ADHD, SEMH or mental health needs.
• Be confident using appropriate de-escalation strategies.
• Have excellent communication and relationship-building skills.
• Be reliable, professional and committed to safeguarding.
• Be passionate about improving outcomes for young people.
