Teaching Personnel are seeking a proactive, enthusiastic Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA) to join a warm and supportive SEN Primary School in the Salford area. Pupils at the school present with a wide range of special educational needs including Autism (ASC), ADHD, Speech, Language & Communication Needs, Learning Difficulties, Global Developmental Delay, Sensory Processing needs, and Social, Emotional & Mental Health (SEMH) needs. The successful candidate will play a key role in supporting learning, promoting independence, and helping create an inclusive, nurturing environment where every child can thrive.


About the Role

As a HLTA, you will play a crucial part in supporting teaching and learning across the school. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Leading small group interventions and 1:1 sessions to support academic, social, and emotional development.
  • Delivering pre‑planned lessons in the teacher’s absence and supporting classroom teaching daily.
  • Adapting activities and resources to meet a diverse range of SEN needs.
  • Using communication systems such as visual timetables, PECS, Makaton (if applicable), and sensory supports.
  • Implementing behaviour support strategies based on individual pupil plans.
  • Supporting pupils with personal care routines where required.
  • Monitoring pupil progress and contributing to reports and assessments.
  • Helping to create a safe, stimulating, and engaging learning environment.

Requirements

To be considered for this role, you should have:

  • HLTA status OR significant experience working at a higher‑level TA capacity.
  • Experience working with children with SEN, ideally within a specialist or alternative provision.
  • Strong understanding of autism, communication difficulties, sensory needs, or SEMH support.
  • Confidence delivering learning activities independently and managing small groups.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to adapt quickly to pupil needs.
  • A patient, caring, and resilient approach with a genuine passion for SEN education.
  • A Child Workforce DBS registered on the Update Service (or willingness to apply through Teaching Personnel).
