Location: Astley (M29)
Schedule: Tuesday & Thursday mornings
Subjects: Maths & English

Teaching Personnel are recruiting an experienced and compassionate 1:1 Tutor to support a Year 9 boy with Fetal Alcohol Syndrome (FAS) and moderate Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC). The student requires consistent structure, a calm approach, and personalised learning activities that allow him to engage confidently in both English and Maths.


The Role

As part of Teaching Personnel’s Tuition Centre, you will provide tailored, high‑quality 1:1 sessions that meet the student’s individual needs. Responsibilities include:

  • Delivering Maths and English tutoring twice weekly (Tuesday & Thursday mornings).
  • Preparing and planning all learning materials and adapting them to the student’s ability.
  • Creating a calm, predictable learning environment that supports ASC‑related needs.
  • Breaking down tasks into clear, manageable steps with visual and verbal reinforcement.
  • Encouraging engagement, confidence and emotional regulation through structured routines.
  • Providing feedback to parents/carers and your Teaching Personnel consultant.
  • Recording attendance, progress and any concerns following Teaching Personnel guidelines.

Candidate Requirements

To be successful in this role, you should have:

  • Experience supporting pupils with ASC, Fetal Alcohol Syndrome, or other complex learning needs.
  • Strong subject knowledge in Maths and English at KS3 level.
  • The ability to independently plan engaging and accessible lessons.
  • Patience, consistency and excellent communication skills.
  • A flexible, nurturing approach with clear behaviour boundaries.
  • A Child Workforce DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to apply through Teaching Personnel).
