Phonics Specialist- Primary School in Oldham- Experience required in Read Write Inc, Letters and Sounds or JollyPhonics Level 3 qualifications or above is a necessity A small one form Primary school situated in the centre of Oldham (OL8) has approached Teaching Personnel, in order to source a specialist Teaching and Learning Support Assistant to work alongside the class teacher; planning and delivering high quality phonics intervention sessions. The role is to work from January for the rest of the academic year in the Year 1 and Year 2 class. The successful candidate will have experience working within key stage 1 and someone who can use their own initiative to raise standards in Reading and Writing. The school are hoping to gain ‘outstanding’ KS1 Reading and Writing results and therefore need to employ a support assistant who is going to help with this. On a daily basis you will be working with student in Key Stage 1, helping with phonic sessions. The children you will be working with are lower level children who are falling behind in their reading and writing. There are some behavioural needs in the two classes and it is important that you can use a range of strategies to ensure poor behaviour does not impact on learning and the development of the children’s Reading and Writing. The school are currently using Read Write Inc. as the primary phonics scheme for the KS1 children. This has now been the primary resource since September 2017 and the impact has been ‘positive’ according to the Head teacher. In order to apply for this role, you must have the following; • An accredited Level 3 qualification in Teaching and Learning in Schools. • Prior experience in a KS1 class, supporting children with additional needs or with Reading and Writing. • GCSE C or above in Maths and English The School have also specified that it would be preferable to have the following; • A specialism in English Language, Literature or Linguistics at A-Level or Degree Level. • Training in Phonics delivery, either in Read Write Inc, Letters and Sounds or Jollyphonics • Prior experience in delivering small group Reading and Writing interventions. • Experience working alongside children with challenging behaviour and special educational needs.
