Teaching Personnel are seeking a Nurture Practitioner on full time basis for a role within a specialist provision in Bradford.
Situated in Horton, our client provides an alternative curriculum for 37 pupils from 11-16 years. Pupils attend from various locations in the surrounding area including Skipton, Keighley, Leeds and Huddersfield.
Pupils have a range of educational needs including Autism and Social, Emotional and Mental Health needs – which has made it difficult for them to attend mainstream schooling.
As a Nurture specialist school, staff work hard to provide a calm, supportive and warm caring environment in which children can flourish, begin to achieve and be the very best that they can in all areas of their development.
The school has been specially developed to support the learning needs of children with Autism and SEMH needs; offering a highly structured and sensory-friendly environment, in line with the SPELL framework to help to promote communication and independence.
It will be your role to support pupils to follow a personalised and individual curriculum, delivering subjects in a thematic and creative way, making learning meaningful and engaging.
You will be joining an experienced team of staff, skilled in working with children with ASC. You will ideally have expertise in working with visual prompts and timetables, PECS, TEACCH, and Objects of Reference.
As a Nurture Practitioner, your role will include:
- Supporting schoolwork under the supervision of the teacher
- Promoting children's confidence, self esteem and independence
- Helping children understand instructions, through repetition, re-phrasing or demonstrating
- Putting into practice individual education, social, behavioural and personal care programmes
- Encouraging children to communicate with one another and with staff
- Assisting children during therapy sessions
- Recognising signs of distress in children and offering reassurance
- Attending to pupils' physical and personal care needs
- Completing, updating and maintaining records
