Job description

Functional Skills Tutor – Stretford (M32)
Helping learners build confidence, one lesson at a time.

Are you someone who enjoys supporting others to develop the practical skills they need in everyday life? We’re looking for tutors to work with young people in the Stretford area who aren’t currently attending mainstream school and would benefit from one-to-one Functional Skills tuition in Maths and English.

The tuition takes place either in the pupil’s home or in a local community space, such as a library. The environment is calm, focused, and flexible – perfect for learners who may struggle in a traditional classroom setting.

This role is ideal for someone with experience teaching or tutoring English and Maths, particularly Functional Skills, who is looking for rewarding, flexible work during school hours.

What the role involves:

  • Delivering one-to-one Functional Skills sessions in English and Maths

  • Supporting learners aged between 14 and 19 who are working at Entry Level up to Level 2

  • Creating personalised learning plans based on each pupil’s needs and ability

  • Encouraging progress in a relaxed, supportive environment

  • Working independently, but with full support from our team

Who this might suit:

You could be a qualified teacher, a tutor, or someone with relevant experience in alternative provision, post-16 education, or SEN settings. What matters most is your ability to connect with learners and adapt your approach to help them succeed.

We’d love to hear from you if you:

  • Have experience delivering Functional Skills or supporting literacy and numeracy

  • Can confidently tailor lessons to different learning styles and needs

  • Are calm, patient, and encouraging in your teaching approach

  • Understand the barriers some young people face with mainstream education

  • Are able to work independently, with strong organisational skills

What’s on offer:

  • £25 to £30 per hour, depending on funding available per pupil

  • Flexible working – you choose your days and hours

  • Tuition that fits around your availability during school-time hours

  • Local opportunities in and around Stretford

  • Weekly pay and ongoing support from your own dedicated consultant

  • Access to professional development and CPD if you'd like it

This is a fantastic opportunity for someone looking to make a meaningful impact on a young person’s future – helping them build confidence, feel understood, and gain skills that will support them far beyond the classroom.

If that sounds like something you’d enjoy, we’d love to hear from you. Please send over your CV to apply or find out more.
