Job description

English Tutor – Salford (M5)
Inspire confidence, improve literacy, and make a real impact – one learner at a time.

Are you passionate about the English language and helping young people thrive in their learning? We’re looking for an experienced and enthusiastic English tutor to support pupils across Salford (M5) who are currently receiving education outside of mainstream school.

You’ll be delivering personalised 1:1 English tuition—either at the pupil’s home or in a local public setting such as a library. The focus is on re-engaging learners who may have missed time in school or who require additional support to catch up and rebuild their confidence with reading, writing, comprehension, and GCSE preparation.

This is a role with real purpose, where your input can shape a learner’s academic path and future opportunities.

What makes this role different?

  • Flexible hours between 8am and 4pm, weekdays

  • Locations within the local Salford area—no long travel

  • £25–£30 per hour, paid weekly

  • Sessions are tailored to the pupil’s pace and level (from KS2 to GCSE)

  • Less pressure and admin than the classroom, with more time to focus on the learner

We’re particularly keen to hear from qualified teachers or experienced tutors with a strong background in English. The ability to build rapport, adapt content to suit different learning needs, and support students who may be working below expected levels is essential.

Whether you’re looking to reduce your workload, return to teaching in a different capacity, or simply want to make a meaningful difference—this could be the opportunity for you.

Interested? Send your CV today and let’s talk about how you could support learners in Salford who need you most.

All applicants will require the appropriate qualifications and training for this role. Please see the FAQ’s on the Teaching Personnel website for details.
