Year 5 Teaching Assistant- Literacy Specialist

  • Location: Watford
  • Start Date: November 2017
  • Contract type: 1yr fixed term

A reputable primary school in Watford is currently searching for an experienced teaching assistant to join them in the new academic year. Starting from the end of October the appointed teaching assistant will be supporting the class teacher of a Year 5 class and will be preparing them for SAT’s towards the end of the academic year. This will include assisting the class teacher with preparation and planning of the curriculum but also leading small intervention groups with some pupils who struggle with literary. The school were rewarded ‘Good’’ in their Ofsted inspection due to the quality of teaching and the teachers’ ability to get positive responses from pupils through skilful questioning but failed to substantially raise the educational attainment of low ability performing students. In saying this, the school are looking for someone who is capable and has a track record of raising attainment with KS2 pupils. There is a new focus on providing support for these children and the school in endeavouring on a journey to prepare these students for SATS exams towards the end of the academic year.

The school gives all teaching assistants the opportunities to pitch an adaptation of the national curriculum if they believe that it will be more beneficial for the child’s progression. By actively accessing the needs of the class, you will be able to deliver support to pupils that are adaptive to all learning abilities within the class. Additionally you will be responsible for providing a safe and encouraging environment where students are encouraged to succeed and develop a desire to continue to learning. Furthermore, the school boasts a friendly and energetic environment where both staff and students benefit from regular training sessions and extra curricular activities.

What we are looking for?

o Experience Teaching Assistant ( 6 months min)

o Aspires to be a teacher

o Passionate about supporting low ability students

o Possess a Valid DBS certificate
