Learning Support Assistant (SEN / SEMH)

 Farnborough
 £14.20 per hour
 Full-time | Ongoing

We are looking for a resilient, compassionate Learning Support Assistant to join a specialist SEN/SEMH school in Farnborough, supporting pupils aged 4–16.

This setting supports young people with a range of additional needs, including:

  • Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs

  • Autism (ASC)

  • Learning difficulties

  • Challenging behaviour

  • Physical/medical needs

 

About the School

The school is set on a spacious, well-equipped site with a strong emphasis on both academic and vocational learning. Facilities include:

  • Outdoor learning spaces

  • Sports areas and an onsite gym

  • Purpose-built classrooms for small group learning and structured support

The environment is designed to provide consistency, safety, and routine, helping students feel supported and ready to engage in their education.

 

The Role

As a Learning Support Assistant, you will work 1:1 and in small groups, supporting students to access learning, regulate emotions, and develop positive behaviours.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support pupils with SEN, SEMH needs, Autism, and learning difficulties

  • Manage and respond to challenging behaviour using a calm, consistent approach

  • Build strong, trusting relationships with students

  • Assist with individualised learning plans and activities

  • Promote emotional regulation and positive behaviour strategies

  • Work closely with teaching and pastoral teams

 

About You

We welcome applicants from a variety of backgrounds, including education, care, youth work, coaching, or support roles.

You will be:

  • Patient, resilient, and adaptable

  • Confident supporting or de-escalating challenging behaviour

  • Passionate about working with young people with additional needs (SEN/SEMH)

  • A strong communicator with a positive, proactive attitude

  • Willing to learn and develop within a specialist setting

Previous experience with SEN, SEMH, or Autism is beneficial but not essential.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
