Teaching Assistant – Specialist Primary Setting (Winchester / Shawford)

Pay: £14.20 per hour

We are looking for compassionate and reliable Teaching Assistants to support a specialist primary school near Winchester (Shawford). This opportunity is ideal for individuals seeking flexible, day-to-day work in a rewarding local setting, as well as those interested in longer-term or full-time roles.

We welcome applicants from a wide range of backgrounds, including SEN, care, support work, healthcare, and childcare, who are looking to make a difference in education, whether on a regular or more flexible basis.

 

About the Setting

This specialist provision supports primary-aged pupils with complex needs, including physical disabilities, autism, learning difficulties, and medical conditions.

The school provides a highly adapted, inclusive environment focused on personalised learning, communication, independence, and wellbeing. Staff work closely together to ensure every child is supported safely and holistically.

Many pupils have medical needs and may require personal care as part of their daily routine.

 

The Role (Flexible Opportunities Available)

You will support pupils with a range of additional needs, helping them access learning, build independence, and communicate effectively.

This role combines educational support with elements of care, including mobility assistance and, where required, personal care.

We offer flexible working options, including:

  • Day-to-day / ad hoc shifts

  • Part-time placements

  • Long-term and full-time roles

This makes the role ideal for those looking to work locally and flexibly, or to gain experience in a specialist school setting.

Full training is provided, and experience in care or support roles is highly valued.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Support pupils 1:1 and in small groups

  • Assist with tailored learning activities

  • Provide personal care where needed

  • Support mobility and specialist equipment use

  • Work collaboratively with school staff and external professionals

  • Promote communication, independence, and inclusion

 

Requirements

  • Experience working with children or vulnerable individuals (any setting)

  • Backgrounds in care, support, healthcare, or education encouraged

  • Patient, adaptable, and caring approach

  • Willingness to support both learning and care needs

  • Ability to work as part of a team

  • Availability for flexible / day-to-day work (full-time also available)

  • Enhanced DBS (or willingness to obtain one)
