Support Assistant – Special Needs Support

Location: South-west Winchester area, Hampshire
Salary: £13.75 per hour

A respected specialist educational setting in the south-west Winchester area is seeking committed and compassionate Support Assistants to join their experienced team supporting children with special educational needs. This is a rewarding opportunity to make a meaningful impact in a positive, inclusive, and well-resourced school environment.

Nestled in a semi-rural location on the edge of Winchester, the school provides a calm, secure, and welcoming setting for children with a broad spectrum of complex needs, including physical disabilities, learning difficulties, and communication challenges. The site features purpose-built facilities and dedicated learning spaces tailored to support each child's unique development.

Role Overview:
Successful candidates will work closely with teachers, therapists, and other education professionals to support the learning and development of individual pupils. You will help deliver personalised educational programmes designed to enable access to the curriculum, foster independence, and promote social and emotional wellbeing.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Providing direct support to children with special educational needs during lessons and school activities

  • Assisting with the implementation and monitoring of personalised education plans and specialist interventions

  • Supporting pupils’ communication using various structured approaches and tools

  • Encouraging positive behaviour, emotional regulation, and peer interaction

  • Maintaining a safe, inclusive, and nurturing learning environment

  • Working collaboratively with teaching staff and a multi-disciplinary team to support progress and achievement

Candidate Requirements:

  • Valid Child Workforce DBS certificate registered on the Update Service, or willingness to obtain one

  • Demonstrable patience, empathy, and strong interpersonal skills

  • Experience working with children with SEND is an advantage but not essential – full training is provided

  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team and follow professional guidance

  • A strong commitment to safeguarding and promoting the wellbeing of children

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
