Job description

Teaching Assistant – Primary SEMH – Andover

Full-time or part-time | Term-time only | Permanent | Starting September

Are you caring, patient, and good with kids?
Have you worked in a nursery, care setting, social care, or supported people with additional needs?
If so — you could make a real difference in a school where relationships and wellbeing come first.

A friendly, specialist primary school in Andover is looking for a Teaching Assistant to join their amazing team. The school supports children aged 4 to 11 with social, emotional, and mental health (SEMH) needs. It’s a safe and supportive place where children are helped to learn, grow, and feel good about themselves — and you can be part of that journey.

What you’ll be doing:

  • Helping pupils in the classroom, either 1:1 or in small groups

  • Supporting children to manage emotions, build confidence, and engage in learning

  • Encouraging positive behaviour, routines, and social skills

  • Working closely with teachers and other staff to give children the support they need

  • Being a calm, steady presence in a child's day

You don’t need to have worked in a school before

We’d love to hear from people with experience in:

  • Nurseries or early years

  • Youth work or social care

  • Residential or community care

  • Mental health support

  • Or just anyone who’s passionate about helping children thrive

What we’re looking for:

  • Someone kind, calm, and reliable

  • A good listener who can build trust with children

  • A team player who isn’t afraid to get stuck in

  • Experience with children or additional needs is a bonus, but not essential

  • A real interest in helping children feel safe, valued, and successful

The Details:

  • Location: Andover

  • Start date: September

  • Contract: Term-time only (you get school holidays off)

  • Hours: Full-time preferred, part-time considered

  • Pay: Based on experience

You’ll need (or be willing to get) an Enhanced DBS check and have the right to work in the UK. A driving licence is helpful but not essential.

If this sounds like the kind of place you’d love to work — we’d love to hear from you.
