Learning Support Assistant
Job description
We are seeking a compassionate and committed Learning Support Assistant to join a primary school in Salford. This role involves providing one‑to‑one support for a Year 6 pupil who has recently moved into foster care and would benefit from a nurturing, patient and relationship‑focused approach.
About the Role
The successful candidate will work closely with the pupil to help them feel safe, supported, and able to engage positively in school life. The child can find certain situations difficult and may display challenging behaviours at times. We are therefore looking for someone who can remain calm, consistent and understanding, using connection and trust-building as the foundation for support.
Key Responsibilities
- Build a strong, positive and trusting relationship with the pupil.
- Provide emotional support and act as a steady, nurturing presence throughout the school day.
- Support the pupil in class, helping them to access learning and develop confidence.
- Use de‑escalation and restorative approaches to help the pupil manage their emotions and behaviour.
- Work collaboratively with teachers, the SENCO, and external professionals to ensure consistent, child‑centred support.
About You
We are looking for someone who is:
- Warm, patient and highly empathetic.
- Skilled at building rapport with children who have experienced trauma or instability.
- Resilient, reflective and able to stay calm under pressure.
- Able to set clear boundaries while maintaining a compassionate approach.
- Committed to supporting the whole child—emotionally, socially and academically.
- A backdround in social care, sports coaching or youth work would be good to hear from you!
What School Offers
- A supportive and welcoming staff team.
- Opportunities for training in trauma‑informed practice and behaviour support.
- A rewarding role where you can make a meaningful difference in a child’s life.
If you are passionate about helping children thrive and feel you can provide the nurturing support this pupil needs, we would love to hear from you.
