Role: 2 x Learning Support Assistant
Type: Full time (Mon – Fri)
Pay : GBP10.20 per hour inclusive of 12.07% holiday pay. Teaching Personnel will contribute to National Insurance and Pension contributions
Working hours: 08:30-15:30

The role
Teaching Personnel are looking to recruit a fluent welsh Learning Support Assistant to work in one of our client schools in the Newport area. The successful candidate will be enthusiastic, engaging and nurturing and will have a good level of Welsh.
Both positions are to support pupils with Additional Learning Needs in the Foundation Phase.
Supporting the pupil
Taking into account the learning support involved, to aid the students to learn as effectively as possible both in group situations and on his/her own by, for example:
-Clarifying and explaining instructions
-Ensuring the child is able to use equipment and materials provided
-Motivating and encouraging the child as required
-Assisting in weaker areas, e.g. language, behaviours, reading, spelling, handwriting/presentation
-Helping pupils to concentrate on and finish work set
-Meeting physical needs as required whilst encouraging independence
-Liaising with class teacher and SENCO about individual education plans (IEPs)
-Developing appropriate resources to support the students
-Become a Learning Mentor for individual students
To establish a supportive relationship with the students concerned.
To encourage acceptance and inclusion of the child with special needs.
To develop methods of promoting/reinforcing the child's self-esteem
The school
The school is on the outskirts of the city of Newport. There are over 200 pupils in the school. Welsh is the main teaching and learning and although very few come from welsh speaking backgrounds, all pupils are expected to be fluent in Welsh and English by the end of key stage 2. The school has 9 classes including one nursery class.
A small percentage of pupils are eligible for free school meals, which is below the national average.
The school was a ‘curriculum pioneer school’ which means it worked with the Welsh Government and other schools to develop a pilot of a new curriculum for Wales which was introduced last year.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
