Teaching Personnel are looking for an enthusiastic, flexible and caring Learning Support Assistant (SEN) to join our friendly team. You may be required to work flexibly across EYFS/Key Stage 1, but will be based predominantly in Early Years Foundation Stage. This role is to support in a class with a child with special educational needs.

As the role will involve 1:1 SEN support, experience of children with SEN is essential. Knowledge of speech and language support including Makaton would be an advantage. This post will also cover lunchtimes at school working as a supervisory assistant with our lunchtime team.

Duties include supporting children in the classroom and playground and working closely with the class teacher to develop pupils' academic and social skills. You will need to be kind, patient, motivated by young children's learning and enjoy their company. Previous experience of working in an EYFS/Key Stage 1 setting or on a 1:1 basis with young children with special educational needs is essential.

At lunchtimes, responsibilities include supporting pupils in the lunch hall, as well as supervising and assisting with play outside. Our lunchtime team work with all pupils from 4 - 11.

The successful candidate will:

  • Have understanding and experience of the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) or KS1 curriculum
  • Be able to use initiative to support both child initiated and teacher led learning
  • Understand the importance of play in a child's learning and development
  • Be able to support children's social and emotional development and show empathy and understanding
  • Be able to employ a range of behaviour management strategies
  • Be enthusiastic, creative, flexible and willing to embrace new ideas
  • Be able to form effective working relationships and work both independently and as a member of a team
  • Have good numeracy, written and oral communication skills and be able to contribute to the day to day recording of individual pupil progress
  • Have relevant qualifications, preferably to at least NVQ 2 or equivalent
  • Have some knowledge of speech and language support, and preferably Makaton
  • Be willing to undertake training to gain further skills
