Learning Mentor
Location: Tameside
Contract: Permanent (36 hours a week)
Salary: Grade E (GBP18,209- GBP20,104)

Teaching Personnel are looking to recruit a resourceful primary school learning mentor to work within one our partnership Roman Catholic primary schools in Tameside. The successful candidate will help support the needs of children who need help to overcome barriers to learning both inside and outside the school, to achieve their full potential.We are looking to appoint an enthusiastic and highly motivated Learning Mentor with substantial school-based experience to join this successful and truly inclusive school. The ideal candidate must share our passion for education as the school has a great emphasis on working hard, aiming high and having fun together.
Main Duties:
- To participate (with teaching and other staff) in the assessment of children returning to school in order to identify those who need extra help to overcome barriers to learning both inside and outside school.
- To provide behaviour support to class teachers with pupils displaying behaviour, emotional and social challenges.
- To support identified children in their learning through extra-curricular activities
- To co-ordinate individual support with class teachers and/or the SENDCO to ensure that they are complementary.
- To draw up and implement an action plan for each child who needs particular support, (except where the child is already subject to an individually tailored plan) in which case, to contribute to reviews and work towards objectives in the plan.
- To develop a 1:1 supportive relationship with children needing particular support where necessary aimed at achieving the goals defined in the plan.
- To maintain regular contact with families/carers of children receiving support, and to encourage positive family involvement in the child’s learning.
- To build up a full knowledge of the range of support available for pupils (e.g. activities, courses, opportunities, and organisations) that could be drawn upon to provide extra support.
- To act as a single point of contact for accessing specialist support (e.g. Children’s Services, out of school study support) and a range of community and business-based programmes and to facilitate the sharing of information.
- To liaise with secondary Learning Mentors to identify pupils who may require further learning mentor support after transferring to secondary school.
- To monitor and report on the implementation of all plans drawn up by the Learning Mentor and others (e.g. SENDCO or Children’s Services).
