KS2 Behaviour Support Teaching Assistant, Wythenshawe

Teaching Personnel are working in partnership with a Central Manchester Primary Pupil Referral Unit who require a specialised KS2 Teaching Assistant on a full time basis to work within their Wythenshawe KS2 setting. The role is due to start as soon as possible so an indivdual with an enhanced child DBS on the update service is ideal. The role would require the Teaching Assistant to support whole class and occasionally as a 1:1 support.

The school is a Pupil Referral Unit for up to 100 pupils in Key Stages 1 and 2 who have either been permanently excluded from mainstream school or who are in danger of becoming so, because of social, emotional or behavioural difficulties. There are three sites based in Wythenshawe, Withington and Gorton. The setting provides part time and full time placements to pupils experiencing behavioural difficulties within their mainstream schools and aims to return pupils to mainstream placements wherever possible. Class sizes are small to allow time to focus on individual education plans and promote individual positive behaviour. The Teaching Assistant will be based at the Wythenshawe site however must be willing to assist at the Gorton or Withington site if occassionally required.

The ideal Teaching Assistant would have;

• previous experience teaching young people with social, emotional and mental health needs
• strong behaviour management skills
• have sound knowledge of the Primary National Curriculum and be able to assist with numeracy, literacy and phonics
• have an up-to-date Team - Teach qualification
• have a DBS on the update service

The successful Teaching Assistant will also have a passion for promoting behavioural development in young people and must be able to act as a positive role model to the young people within this setting. You will need to be proactive, enthusiastic and have a determination to succeed.
