Graduate Teaching Assistant – WN6 Area (Wigan)

Are you a recent graduate considering a future career in education?

We are currently recruiting Graduate Teaching Assistants for a number of welcoming and inclusive secondary schools based in the WN6 area of Wigan, including Orrell, Shevington and Standish. These schools are looking for passionate, reliable graduates who are eager to gain hands-on classroom experience.

Key Details:

  • Full-time and part-time roles available to suit your availability and other commitments.

  • Flexible working patterns – ideal if you're looking to gain school-based experience before applying for teacher training.

  • Expected monthly earnings of £1000–£1200, depending on your availability.

  • No formal school-based experience required – but any experience supporting young people is advantageous.

This is the perfect opportunity if you are:

  • A graduate interested in teaching, youth work or educational support.

  • Looking to gain classroom experience ahead of applying for a PGCE or teacher training.

  • Passionate about making a difference in young people’s lives.

As a Graduate Teaching Assistant, you will:

  • Support students within the classroom to help them access the curriculum and stay on task.

  • Work 1:1 or with small groups of pupils, including those with additional needs or requiring catch-up sessions.

  • Assist with behaviour management and pastoral support.

  • Occasionally deliver general classroom cover in the absence of the teacher – full support and training provided.

These roles offer a fantastic pathway into education, with access to CPD and training provided by both the school and Teaching Personnel. The schools we work with offer supportive environments and are ideally located for anyone living in or around the WN6 area.

Own transport is beneficial but not essential, as the area is well-connected via public transport to Wigan, Chorley, St Helens and Skelmersdale.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
