If you are a graduate seeking full-time employment and are deliberating a career in teaching, the Future Teachers programme is designed to provide graduates with direct access to practical experience before they begin a formal teacher training placement.

'Future Teachers' encourages graduates of all specialisms to take on a year-long role as a teaching assistant within a school that runs a SCITT programme. The intention behind this is to introduce candidates to the school prior to the commencement of their September 2020 SCITT programme, securing them a position to do their formal teacher training after they finish their teaching assistant role.

As a graduate teaching assistant, you will work with a vast range of staff and students within the department of the subject you wish to pursue. Through the constructive feedback and encouragement of a highly-supportive team, you will develop into a confident, outgoing individual in the lead-up to beginning your SCITT.

Responsibilities within the graduate teaching assistant role include providing;

• Cover Supervisor work where you will experience covering lessons and classroom management
• one to one specific tuition/interventions where you will utilise your subject knowledge to raise pupil attainment
• SEN support where you can work alongside pupils with Special Educational Needs
• In-class support in your specialist subject to enhance pupils learning experience
• Assistance with planning and preparation of lessons alongside teachers to upskill you in this area

Places are available across the whole of the Tyne and Wear area, including South Tyneside, Gateshead and Sunderland.
