About the Programme

This route is designed for graduates who want to explore teaching before committing fully to a PGCE or similar course. It provides a supportive transition into the profession, combining practical classroom experience with professional development and formal training.

Year 1: Classroom Experience (Cover Supervisor Role)

• Work in a Bournemouth secondary school in a Cover Supervisor role
• Supervise classes when teachers are absent, ensuring students complete pre-set work
• Gain confidence in classroom management and behaviour support
• Focus on developing skills—no lesson planning or marking required
• Build strong relationships with staff and students ahead of teacher training

Year 2: Salaried Teacher Training

• Transition into a salaried Initial Teacher Training (ITT) programme with the same school or trust
• Work toward Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) while being fully supported by mentors
• Earn a salary while you train, combining classroom teaching with professional study
• Opportunity to gain a PGCE alongside QTS in a familiar and supportive environment
