Date posted : 22/08/19
£57 - £70 per day

Job description

This vacancy has now expired. Please see similar roles below...

Have you recently graduated and are wondering what the next step is for you? Do you have a passion for helping others and are looking to kick start your career in schools?

Teaching Personnel are looking for graduates to work in SEN (Special Educational Needs) Schools across Sheffield. There are opportunities to work in either primary or secondary age classes depending on your preferences. You will be assisting children in the classroom who have complex needs including autism and moderate learning difficulties. Some children may display challenging behaviour so it is important you are a calm and caring individual.

You will be supporting the class teacher with small classes- typically 6-10 children. You will promote engaging activities for children of different abilities and encourage positive social skills. You will liaise with teachers and other support staff to make lessons accessible and support children both in and around the classroom. At times you may be required to assist with the personal care of the students.

It is a great opportunity to get paid experience within schools to kick-start your career and Teaching Personnel even run a Future Teachers Programme, where the experience you get now can support your PGCE applications in the future.

What do you need?

We require you to have a Child Workforce DBS on the Update Service (or be willing to apply for one).

A relevant degree, such as in any of the following fields: Psychology, Sports/Sports Coaching, SEN and Inclusion.

Prior experience supporting individuals with additional needs is preferred but not essential (this could be in care settings, university placements, youth work, voluntary work) as Teaching Personnel will help you to get valuable paid experience.

What can you expect?

Teaching Personnel offer competitive daily rates, the starting pay per day for support staff being £57. We offer valuable training courses which are accredited and add to your CV, such as Team Teach which teaches positive de-escalation techniques for behaviour management and Moving and Handling- the safe movement of children with additional needs in and around the classroom. You will get paid experience in the settings which you prefer and can try different things to see where your preferences lie. We do a Temp-to-Perm scheme which can see you gain a permanent contract within a particular school if you like it and get on well.

If you are a recent graduate and are looking for paid work in SEN schools in Sheffield, please email an up to date CV or call 0114 241 3341 now!
