Location: Dorchester, Dorset
Position: Full-Time Teaching Assistant
Contract: Long-Term / Ongoing
Start Date: Immediate
Pay Rate: £14.25 per hour

Teaching Assistant – Make a Difference Every School Day

Are you looking for a rewarding role where you can support children to develop academically, socially and personally?

Teaching Personnel are currently looking for a Full-Time Teaching Assistant to join a school in Dorchester. This is an opportunity to become part of a dedicated education team and provide valuable day-to-day support to pupils who benefit from additional guidance in the classroom.

The successful candidate will work alongside teachers and other school staff, helping pupils remain engaged, confident and ready to learn.

This position could suit an experienced Teaching Assistant or someone with transferable experience who is keen to establish themselves within the education sector.

The Opportunity

As a Teaching Assistant, you will provide practical and learning-focused support throughout the school day. Your role will vary depending on the needs of the pupils and the classroom.

You may be responsible for:

  • Supporting pupils during lessons and independent learning activities

  • Working with individual pupils who require additional guidance

  • Leading or assisting with small-group activities

  • Helping pupils understand and complete classroom tasks

  • Reinforcing instructions given by the class teacher

  • Supporting reading, writing, mathematics and other curriculum areas

  • Encouraging pupils to participate actively in lessons

  • Helping pupils develop confidence and independence

  • Supporting pupils who experience barriers to learning

  • Providing encouragement and positive reinforcement

  • Helping maintain appropriate classroom expectations

  • Supporting positive behaviour throughout the school day

  • Assisting teachers with classroom preparation and resources

  • Supporting pupils during transitions between lessons and activities

  • Working collaboratively with teachers and other support staff

  • Sharing relevant observations and information with members of the teaching team

You will play an important part in helping create a classroom where pupils feel comfortable, included and able to achieve.

The Right Person

We are looking for someone who is enthusiastic about working with children and understands the importance of providing consistent support.

You will ideally be:

  • Patient and supportive

  • Friendly and approachable

  • Confident communicating with children and adults

  • Reliable and punctual

  • Calm when dealing with challenging situations

  • Able to establish positive relationships with pupils

  • Comfortable working independently when required

  • A team player who is happy to work alongside teachers and support staff

  • Flexible and willing to adapt to individual pupil needs

  • Committed to promoting positive outcomes for children

Previous experience within education would be beneficial, but it isn't essential.

We would welcome applications from individuals with backgrounds in childcare, youth work, tutoring, mentoring, sports coaching, care work or volunteering who can demonstrate the right skills and attitude.

Supporting Pupils With Additional Needs

The successful candidate may be required to work with pupils who have additional learning or support requirements.

Experience of SEND, Autism, ADHD, behavioural needs, communication difficulties or learning difficulties would be advantageous.

You don't need to be an expert in every area of SEND. What matters is your ability to listen, remain patient and adapt your approach to meet the individual needs of the pupils you are supporting.

You will also have opportunities to develop your understanding of SEND through experience and training.

What Makes This Opportunity Valuable?

Working as a Teaching Assistant provides the chance to see the impact that consistent, positive support can have on pupils.

You could help a child become more confident when contributing to lessons, encourage a pupil to complete a task independently or simply provide the reassurance they need to have a positive day at school.

The experience gained can also be valuable for individuals considering future careers in teaching, SEND support, pastoral care, youth work or other education-based roles.

Working With Teaching Personnel

As one of the UK's leading education recruitment agencies, Teaching Personnel can support you throughout your placement and help you develop your career within education.

You'll have access to:

  • £14.25 per hour

  • Full-time working opportunities

  • A dedicated Teaching Personnel consultant

  • Ongoing support throughout your assignment

  • Free CPD and professional development opportunities

  • Support with registration and compliance

  • Opportunities to move into permanent education positions

  • Access to additional Teaching Assistant and education vacancies
