The position could be well suited to an experienced Teaching Assistant, Learning Support Assistant, graduate or someone with transferable experience who is ready to take their first step into a school environment.

What Will You Be Doing?

As part of the school's support team, you will help pupils get the most out of their time in the classroom.

Your responsibilities may include:

  • Providing individual support to pupils during lessons

  • Working with small groups to consolidate learning

  • Helping pupils understand and follow classroom instructions

  • Supporting teachers with planned activities and lessons

  • Encouraging pupils to participate and contribute

  • Helping pupils develop stronger study and organisational skills

  • Supporting reading, writing, numeracy and wider curriculum activities

  • Reinforcing positive classroom expectations

  • Helping pupils develop independence and confidence

  • Providing encouragement to pupils who may lack confidence in their abilities

  • Supporting pupils with additional learning requirements

  • Assisting with classroom resources and preparation

  • Helping maintain a calm, purposeful learning environment

  • Supporting pupils during transitions and other parts of the school day

  • Working collaboratively with teachers and other support staff

  • Communicating relevant information about pupils with the appropriate members of staff

You will have the opportunity to build strong relationships with pupils and become a consistent and trusted member of their school experience.

Who Would Suit This Role?

We are looking for someone who brings a positive attitude and a genuine commitment to supporting young people.

You should be:

  • Comfortable working with pupils with different abilities and needs

  • Proactive and willing to use your initiative

  • Adaptable when plans or pupil requirements change

  • A strong team player

  • Committed to safeguarding and pupil wellbeing

You don't necessarily need previous experience as a Teaching Assistant.

We would be particularly interested in candidates who have experience in childcare, tutoring, mentoring, youth work, sports coaching, care, volunteering or other roles involving children and young people.

Experience With SEND

The school may require support for pupils with a variety of additional needs, so an understanding of SEND would be beneficial.

Previous experience with Autism, ADHD, communication difficulties, behavioural needs, learning difficulties or social and emotional needs would be welcomed.

However, the key requirement is a willingness to understand each pupil as an individual and adapt your support accordingly.

You'll gain first-hand experience of:

  • Supporting learning in a classroom
