FE Residential Support Worker/ TA
Location- Penarth
Salary- £89.38/ day
Contract type- Flexible working patterns
We are looking for an individual who can join our incredible FE and Support worker team in our ALN FE College. This role combines educational support during the college day with pastoral and independence‑building support within the residential environment. The successful candidate will help learners who are 16+ develop academic, social, and life skills, ensuring their safety, wellbeing, and personal growth.
Daily Responsibilities-
- Support learners in the residential setting to follow structured daily routines, including mornings, evenings, and transitions between college, activities, and home life.
- Provide personal care where required, delivering support in a respectful, sensitive, and dignified way in line with individual care plans and moving & handling guidance.
- Promote and develop learners’ independence in daily living skills, including personal hygiene, dressing, meal preparation, and general housekeeping tasks.
- Support learners to maintain their wellbeing, offering emotional reassurance, encouragement, and guidance toward positive, healthy lifestyle choices.
About the Role-
As a Residential Support Worker / Teaching Assistant, you will play a key role within a multidisciplinary Further Education team, supporting learners aged 16+ with a wide range of Additional Learning Needs (ALN), including autism, ADHD, complex physical needs, and behaviours that may challenge, across both residential and educational settings.
Working collaboratively with Teachers, ALN Support Staff, and Residential Team Leaders, you will help create a safe, structured, and nurturing environment where learners feel valued, supported, and encouraged to build independence, confidence, and essential life skills.
Your responsibilities will include providing day‑to‑day care and support within the on‑site residential homes, assisting learners with routines such as personal care, wellbeing, and daily living skills. You will also support learners during the college day through a combination of small‑group work and 1:1 support, helping them to engage in their learning programmes, practical sessions, and community‑based activities.
Requirements-
- No previous experience working as a support worker is required. (Although experience working with people with additional learning needs is preferable).
- We are looking for individuals who have a positive attitude and a genuine passion in working with learners with ALN.
- Being adaptable in high-pressure environments, whilst maintaining compassionate and calm is key.
- Training in Manual Handling is favoured.
- Child and Adult Enhanced DBS on the Update service (we can help you with this!).
- Education Workforce registration (EWC) (Again, we can help!).
- Full UK driving licence and access to personal transport.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
