Job description

Classroom Support Assistant (SEN Focus) – Primary & Secondary SEN School | Tameside | Full-Time & Part-Time Opportunities

Are you passionate about supporting children and young people with additional needs? Do you want a role where every day brings the opportunity to make a meaningful and lasting difference?

A highly supportive and well-established SEN school in Tameside, catering to both primary and secondary-aged pupils, is seeking a dedicated Classroom Support Assistant to join their inclusive and nurturing team. This is a fantastic opportunity to work in a setting that truly prioritises student wellbeing, personalised learning, and staff development.

The school supports pupils with a wide range of needs, including autism (ASC), ADHD, communication and interaction needs, moderate to severe learning difficulties, and SEMH. You will play a vital role in helping students access education in a way that works for them, supporting both their academic progress and personal development.

The school is well-equipped with specialist facilities designed to meet the needs of its learners. These include sensory rooms, soft play areas, quiet breakout spaces, therapy rooms, and adapted classrooms that promote a calm, structured, and engaging learning environment. Outdoor learning spaces are also used to support regulation and engagement.

You will be working alongside a highly experienced team of teachers, SEN specialists, therapists, and support staff, all of whom are committed to creating a positive and collaborative environment. Staff are well-supported through regular training, mentoring, and opportunities for progression.

The school is conveniently located in Tameside with excellent public transport links and on-site parking available, making it easily accessible whether you drive or rely on public transport.

The Role

As a Classroom Support Assistant, you will provide essential support to pupils throughout the school day, both in and out of the classroom.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide 1:1 and small group support tailored to individual pupil needs
  • Support students with learning, communication, and emotional regulation
  • Assist with the delivery of individual education plans (EHCPs)
  • Help manage and de-escalate challenging behaviour using a calm and consistent approach
  • Support pupils during lessons, transitions, and unstructured times
  • Work closely with teachers and SEN staff to ensure a consistent and supportive environment
  • Support with personal care where required

What We’re Looking For

We welcome candidates from a variety of backgrounds—your attitude, resilience, and passion are what matter most.

You will:

  • Have experience working with children or young people with SEN or transferable experience (e.g. care, youth work, coaching, support work)
  • Be patient, empathetic, and resilient, with a genuine passion for supporting learners with additional needs
  • Have strong communication and relationship-building skills
  • Be proactive, adaptable, and confident using your own initiative
  • Be open to training and continuous professional development
  • Hold (or be willing to obtain) an Enhanced DBS on the Update Service

Why Apply?

  • Work in a rewarding role where you can make a real impact every day
  • Join a supportive and experienced team within a well-resourced SEN school
  • Access to excellent facilities tailored for SEN learners
  • Opportunities for career progression and training
  • Flexible working options with full-time and part-time roles available
  • Great transport links and on-site parking

This role is ideal for anyone looking to build or continue a career in education, particularly within SEN. Whether you are experienced or looking to transfer your skills into a school setting, this is a fantastic opportunity to grow and develop.

If you are ready to take on a fulfilling role and be part of a school that truly values both its students and staff, we would love to hear from you.
