BSL Teaching Assistant - Edmonton primary school

Teaching Personnel are excited to recruit a Teaching Assistant for a school in Enfield to start in September. The school are looking for someone to provide support for a new girl joining their Reception class, who was born with a hearing impairment. You will be working one to one to support this student and assist her with communication with staff and peers, so a background in British Sign Language (BSL) is essential (either experience or Level 1 certificate minimum). The role will be full-time and, provided you get on well with the child, will run for the full academic year with potential to become a permanent member of staff.

The school is a large, vibrant primary school based in Enfield, a short walk from Edmonton Green station (Overground, Greater Anglia trains). The school is very proud of their cultural and linguistic diversity with students bringing a wealth of experiences and languages from around the world. The school is bright, colourful and welcoming, providing a place for all pupils to want to learn. The school is determined that every child should receive the best education and that they develop a love of learning, which will stay with them.

The school's motto reflects that learning is a partnership between the students, the school and the family. The community approach to learning works well for the school and they were rated Ofsted 'Good' at their most recent inspection. The school works particularly hard on its extended curriculum, making sure they can engage with the different needs and interests of their pupils. There are a number of opportunities and experiences made available with over 40 after-school and lunch-time clubs on offer. Activities include street dancing, athletics and mathematics club.

The school is well lead by the Executive and Associate Head Teachers who provide inspiration to the school - The leaders have a strong view of how successful the school can be. Shortlisting criteria include:

  • BSL Experience (Level 1 qualification or equivalent experience)
  • Experience working with children in EYFS or KS1
  • A proactive and positive attitude
