Learning Support Assistant (SEND)
Teaching Personnel are looking to appoint a Learning Support Assistant (SEND) to join our secondary-age SEN provision in York. Both full-time and part-time applicants are encouraged to apply. This is a term-time only position, with pay ranging from £89.38 – £110 per day depending on experience.
We are seeking an enthusiastic, patient and reliable candidate who is comfortable supporting secondary-aged students with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND). This role requires a genuine passion for supporting young people’s welfare, education and personal development.
Applicants with relevant experience such as Learning Support Assistant, Teaching Assistant, SEN Support Worker, Youth Worker, SEN Sports Coach or Healthcare Assistant are strongly encouraged to apply.
Qualifications and Experience
- A Level 2 qualification in Supporting Teaching and Learning, Childcare, or similar is desirable but not essential.
- Previous experience working with young people with SEND, particularly within a secondary school or specialist provision, is highly advantageous.
- Basic First Aid certification is beneficial but not mandatory.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to build positive relationships with students and staff.
Responsibilities within this role include
- Provide one-to-one support for students with SEND to help them access the curriculum.
- Support small group interventions and targeted catch-up programmes.
- Work closely with teachers and the SENCO to implement individual learning plans and behaviour strategies.
- Assist in the classroom to ensure students remain engaged, supported and make positive progress.
- Support students with social, emotional and behavioural needs where required.
- Undertake break time and lunch time duties as directed.
- Maintain positive working relationships with colleagues, students and parents/carers to ensure clear and effective communication.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
