An exciting opportunity has arisen for a teaching assistant to offer support to pupils at an alterative SEMH education setting based in Leeds, West Yorkshire. The students have SEMH (Social Emotional Mental Health) needs and can show challenging behaviour. Due to having SEMH difficulties, the pupils find it difficult to pay attention in class and struggle to manage their behavior. The role would be extremely challenging and will demand a lot of resilience and proactive nature.

Your role as a teaching assistant will be solely for the direct support of the children within their educational setting. You will provide continuous provision to the pupils by helping them stay focused in class, be persistent with your behaviour management strategies, simplifying and breaking down instructions when needed.

The successful candidate must be able to remain patient and calm when the pupil is feeling frustrated and expresses bad behaviour. The pupil’s social skills are relevantly poor meaning that it is important you can help enhance their communication skills and integrate them into the class. Some pupils are currently going through some personal home issues, so the school is looking for a candidate who can be a positive role model and wants to offer the pupils their full support.

A Team-Teach qualification is highly desirable but not essential. Teaching Personnel also offer a range of CPD courses including Team-Teach, Introduction to Autism and Management Control and we are partnered with Leeds Trinity University who support us with upskilling all our candidates.
