Behaviour Support Teaching Assistant

We are seeking a resilient and compassionate Behaviour Support Teaching Assistant to work full-time with young people aged 11 to 16. This role supports students with Special Educational Needs (SEN), with a particular focus on SEMH needs. Many pupils present with anxiety, depression, attachment and detachment disorders, and require consistent, empathetic and structured support throughout the school day.

This is a full-time position with an immediate start, offering a rewarding opportunity to make a real difference in students’ lives.

The setting provides a calm, nurturing and highly structured environment where pupils are supported to re-engage with education, build trust and develop emotional resilience. 

Key Responsibilities

• Supporting students with SEMH needs on a 1:1 and small group basis

• Managing and de-escalating challenging behaviour in a calm, consistent manner

• Supporting emotional regulation and positive coping strategies

• Building trusting relationships with pupils who have experienced trauma

• Supporting learning activities and engagement in lessons

• Working collaboratively with teachers, therapists and pastoral staff

Essential Requirements

• Minimum of 6 months childcare experience, particularly supporting children or young people with SEN or SEMH needs

• A patient, resilient and empathetic approach

• Confidence supporting behaviour and emotional wellbeing
