Do you want to support pupils ages 11-16?

A fantastic secondary school in the Newport area are looking for a Behaviour Support Teaching Assistant to join them for the summer term. This is a perfect opportunity for a graduate or experienced teaching assistant who is looking to develop their experience with Special Educational Needs and Behaviour Disorders.

  • Salary: £100 - £110 a day
  • Hours: 08:30am – 3:30pm (term time only)
  • Full time and Part time contracts available
  • Supporting ages 11-16 within a Newport secondary school

This position is initially until August 2024, but the school will be planning for their staffing for the next academic year over the next couple of months so this is a fantastic opportunity to get your foot in the door at a school if you are seeking a role for academic year 24/25.

As a Behaviour Support Teaching Assistant, you will have the opportunity to work closely with young people with mental health difficulties, and challenging behaviour.

You will be supporting pupils within small groups and occasionally manage the schools behaviour room of up to 10 pupils.

The school has two SEN provisions within the school, and an internal behaviour support room.  From time to time, you will work across all these provisions so the successful candidate will need to be adaptable and have a good use of initiative.

The ideal Behaviour Support Teaching Assistant:

  • Ideally, have experience working within a classroom environment, specifically with SEMH and will be confident with dysregulated behaviour.
  • Ideally, have experience supporting children and young people with Autism and Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) needs.
  • Able to provide efficient academic support within the classroom.
  • Resilience and adaptability are crucial alongside the ability to set and maintain boundaries.
  • The ability to form lasting relationships between staff and students is a must.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
