Working on behalf of a primary school in Middleton (M24), Teaching Personnel are looking to recruit a behaviour support assistant to work alongside a child in Year 3 on a one-to-one basis. The child has recently been granted an Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP) so the school are looking to appoint for September 2023.

  • Full-time role Mon- Fri
  • September start with a view to take on permanent contract
  • Pay starting from £400-£450 per week (no fees, just PAYE)
  • Earnings paid weekly
  • Bus, Train, Tram links between Rochdale, Oldham, and North Manchester

Role

This a highly-rewarding but demanding role. As a Behaviour Support Assistant, the role will involve working with an individual child in Year 3 who benefits from additional adult support in and outside of the classroom.

The focus of his EHCP is to focus the child's attention during lesson time so she can access the national curriculum so the role with involve a mixture of in-class support with use of a specialist SEN provision room.

Monitoring of the child’s behaviour is important, using positive reinforcement strategies frequently via her individual sticker chart. Daily communication with parents and the SENCO regarding behaviour is essential to contribute towards a consistent approach between home and school.

In the afternoons, you will work within the wider SEN team to create and deliver nurturing activities such as cooking, junk modelling and yoga!

Teacher

The required individual will be resilient and consistent in their approach, they will be able to think on their feet when dealing with tricky scenarios. Being able to quickly develop strong relationships both with the child and with other staff will be essential in making a success of this role.

Ultimately, the individual needs to have an open mind and be flexible as every day is not the same!

Previous experience supporting pupils with special educational needs is advantageous but not essential. The school are looking for any individual who has experience from different backgrounds such as working in the community setting as a support worker, care worker or youth worker.  Candidates who have residential care experience will similarly flourish in the role alongside sports coaches as these professions have the transferable skills to succeed in this role.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
