Job description

Resilient, enthusiastic and dedicated Behaviour Mentor required to work alongside a school in Dorset.

The school works with young people from KS2 – KS4 who are unable to attend school due to exclusion, medical needs or because they have an EHCP with a diagnosis of SEMH. Some young people are also on the autistic spectrum.

The school has 2 sites. One based in Blandford Forum who caters for young people between KS3 and KS4 with SEMH. The second, is based on Poole and caters for young people between the ages of 7-16 who can not attend mainstream school due to medical needs or anxiety. They also cater for young people between the ages of 7-11 with SEMH. Which site you work at will depend on your location and skills. 

As a Behaviour Lead in this school, you will be:

  • Encouraging and motivating students to be engaged in their learning 
  • Developing behaviour plans
  • Working on a 1:1 basis and in small groups 
  • Reacting to challenging situations within the school environment, de-escalating behaviours and using physical restraint where necessary (full training will be provided).
  • Working alongside 2 other Behaviour Mentors 
  • Covering lessons occasionally

This is a permanent opportunity starting ASAP or in September 2024. 

We are looking for someone who can relate to the students whilst maintaining professional working relationships. The successful candidate must also:

  • Be a very experienced TA/HLTA looking for the next step in your career OR have experience in a similar role
  • Strong behaviour management skills and experience working with young people who have similar needs
  • Be confident, resilient and adaptable
  • Reliable and organised
  • GCSE or equivalent in Maths, English and ICT.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
