About the Job:

This special school are seeking a behaviour mentor with autism experience for a new Year 6 class due to open in September 2020. They are looking for a confident, engaging and highly motivated mentor capable of inspiring pupils with autism, parents and staff. The position is full-time starting in September 2020 and will include managing behaviour, supporting children with autism 1:1 in class and during their breaks along with therapy assistance.

The successful candidate will be committed to supporting pupils with autism and behavioural needs reach their full potential and build awareness of the world around them.

You will be an integral part of the new primary team who work collaboratively across the school to provide a safe caring, engaging setting where children are respected and able to build independence skills. You will make a difference supporting positive progress with behaviour and learning while working closely with the class teacher and up to 3 other SEN learning mentors. You will need to be open to supporting or training with additional areas dependant on pupil needs such as personal care (toileting support).

About the special school (Richmond):

This school is a unique specialist school meeting the needs of children with speech, language and communication difficulties. It is situated in Richmond with two sites in Twickenham, West London for children and young people from the ages of 4 to 19. The school recently opened in 2019 with a secondary department and are looking to complete the expansion of their primary department by September 2021.

  • Small classes with a high adult to child ratio

This special school are seeking a professional who is:

  • Experienced or trained in supporting children with autism, behavioural needs and/or speech and language needs
  • Experienced working with primary aged children in educational, youth work or play settings
  • Knowledgeable and confident supporting children with academic learning
  • Trained or open to training to support children with personal care (toilet support), feeding and/or medication administration
  • Ambitious and committed to providing excellent support and care to children with autism and social needs
  • Keen to challenge and build self-esteem in pupils
  • Dedicated to supporting the vision and ethos of the school
