Experience with social and communication needs is essential

Since the turn of 2017, Teaching Personnel have seen an increase in schools requiring SEN experienced support assistants to work with small groups and individual children who are in need of additional support. These needs vary from children with Autism, ADHD and Social Emotional & Mental Health issues. The type of support these children require varies from 1:1 to 1:2 and small grouped work.

Specifically, in the last week, Teaching Personnel have been asked to shortlist and supply a Support Assistant to work with a young girl in a Year 5 class beginning in September. The role will be to work on a 1:1 basis supporting the child throughout the working day including some break and lunch times. The role will be 5 days a week working from 830-1530 and the expectation is that the successful candidate will continue on a long-term temporary contract. It is essential that you have recent and prior experience working alongside children diagnosed with Autism. It is also preferable that you have experience working with PECs and have basic sign language or MAKATON training, however this is advantageous not essential.

The school in Preston are graded GOOD by Ofsted and have aspects of Outstanding for Behaviour across school. The Head teacher is keen to support the successful candidate and is prepared to place the successful candidate on professional development courses in order to upskill during their time in school.

Further to the information above; there are children in Lancashire area who require support on a full and part time basis. Some of these children have SEN statements and Education Care plans and as a result of this, funding is available to support the child for an amount of time. We also support children who are from Traveller backgrounds and Looked After Children as well- These roles can be massively rewarding and look fantastic on your CV.
